Richmond Kickers News Release

RICHMOND, VA - (Thursday, July 24, 2008) - The Kickers return to the University of Richmond Stadium this Saturday, July 26th when they host the Real Maryland Monarchs and Public Safety Night. Get up close to the action as a fire truck, police cars and other emergency response vehicles will be on display. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 pm and the first 500 fans receive hackey sacks courtesy of Mentor Match.

The Kickers finish the two-game series against the expansion franchise on Saturday after rolling to a 3-0 win in Maryland last time out. Midfielder Adrian Bumbut netted his first professional goal on an assist from defender Kelvin Jones to open scoring in Maryland. Later Bumbut assisted on a Freddie Smith tally early in the second half, before Stanley Nyazamba connected with Mike Burke to close out the night.

The Monarchs are currently winless in their last 10 matches and are thirsty for victory as they enter this weekend's match-up. Maryland resides in the USL-2 standings basement with a 3-13-1 record and 9 points, most recently dropping a 2-1 decision to the Bermuda Hogges last night. After two weather delays and three and a half hours, the Hogges took the lead in the 3rd minute. Monarchs leading scorer Nilson Perez notched the equalizer before the break but could not rally past a Bermuda second half goal. The game was ended five minutes later because the stadium lights are required by law to be shut off at 11:45pm. Meanwhile, the Kickers clinched a playoff spot and claimed the sole second place spot in the standings, courtesy of last weekend's victory over Cleveland. Boasting a record of 10-4-2 and 32 points, the Kickers downed the City Stars, 3-1 on a pair of David Bulow tallies.
