Columbus Lions News Release
COLUMBUS, GA (April 10, 2012) - The Columbus Lions (2-2) of the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) are proud to announce the re-signing of two-time first team kicker Trey Crum (5'7 180, Delta State).
Last season, after coming over from Mobile, Crum earned 1st Team nomination after notching a league-high 20 Uno's during the regular season in addition to nailing another eight during the clubs playoff run. For the past two seasons, the Lefty has solidified the Lions kicking game scoring 278 points along with 53 Uno's.
Trey comes in at a necessary time as the club has struggled through their first four games ranking last in PAT's completing just 68% (17/25), kickoff coverage (33 yards/kick), and second to last in field goals going 1 for 4.
"What an awesome opportunity it is to return home," says newly re-signed Kicker Trey Crum. "It's been so much more than just a game, a field goal, or an Uno, it's about the relationships that I have built with the team and especially the Lions fans. I'm excited to return home!"
In addition, the Lions also added Defensive Lineman Melvin Matthews (6'4 300, Grambling St.). The former Division I FCS All-American was signed to the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie mini-camp in 2010 while also spending time with the AFL's Bossier Shreveport Battle Wings in that same year.
On Saturday, the Columbus Lions host the reeling Louisiana Swashbucklers (1-2) losers of two straight. It will be a rematch of the 2010 SIFL Championship Game in which the Lions defeated the Bucs 68-13.
Saturday is also "Cancer Awareness Night", in support of this cause the Lions will be donning pink jersey's and will be playing with pink footballs which will be auctioned off immediately following the game.
