Frederick Keys News Release
The Frederick Keys moved to within a game-and-a-half of first place in the Northern Division this afternoon, with a 6-2 win over the Potomac Nationals.
The P-Nats got on the scoreboard early. With one man down, 2B Matt Rogelstad turned on a Brandon Erbe 1-2 offering, depositing it over the fence in right, and giving Potomac a 1-0 lead.
The Keys battled back. In the bottom of the second, Frederick LF Paul Winterling led off the inning with an opposite field homerun to tie the game at one. With one man out in the inning, Mike Pierce and Jason White hit back-to-back singles. Potomac starter Jhonny Nunez threw two wild pitches, allowing Pierce to score, and giving the Keys a 2-1 advantage.
Pierce led off the bottom of the fourth with a double. The catcher was able to steal third, after almost being picked off. White was then hit by a pitch. With runners on the corners, Keys 3B Todd Davison grounded into a fielders choice, scoring Pierce, and extending Frederick's lead to two.
The Keys weren't done. Nunez hit the next batter, Chris Amador, with a pitch. One batter later, with two on and two out, 1B Chris Vinyard hit a 3-run homerun, a monster shot to dead center, giving the Keys a 6-1 lead.
Potomac tacked on a run in the ninth inning, as Edgardo Baez hit a solo homerun off Frederick reliever Wilfrido Perez.
Erbe was pulled after six innings, allowing one run on three hits. He was credited with the win, improving to 3-1. Nunez got the loss, dropping to 0-3 on the season. Perez picked up the three-inning save.
The Keys begin a seven-game road trip tomorrow, opening up a three-game series with the Wilmingto Blue Rocks. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM. Frederick returns home a week from tomorrow, to take on the Kinston Indians. It'll be Kids Eat Free Monday at Harry Grove Stadium. All kids under the age of 12 will receive a voucher for a free hotdog, soda and bag of chips. For ticket information contact the Keys box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
