Keys Open Second Half with a Thud
June 21, 2007 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release
Arturo Rivas' leadoff single was the only hit the Keys could muster in an 8-1 blowout loss in Wilmington to open the second half of the Carolina League season on Thursday night at Frawley Stadium.
Blue Rocks starter Blake Johnson (4-6) limited Frederick to one-hit in his six innings of work to pick up the win.
Keys starter David Hernandez struggled out of the gate, allowing the leadoff man aboard via a walk or hit batsmen in each of the first three innings. With that Hernandez was forced to work from the stretch, where he allowed seven runs in 5 and 2/3rds innings of work.
Wilmington scored in the first inning and extended upon their lead when newcomer Chris McConnell hit his first Carolina League home run, a two-run drive to left field. It came with two outs to put the Blue Rocks on top 3-0. McConnell would end the night a double short of the cycle going 3-for-4 with three RBI's.
The series continues Friday night at Frawley Stadium at 7:05 p.m.
The Frederick Keys are playoff bound for a third consecutive season. Playoff tickets go on sale Wednesday, June 27th at the Keys Ticket Offices. For tickets contact the Keys at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
