Bradenton Marauders News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Marauders bats managed just four hits Thursday night and were held scoreless after the third inning in a 4-2 loss to the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels at Hammond Stadium.
The Marauders (59-37) have now lost four of their last five games but remain in second place in the West Division, nine games ahead of the third-place Mighty Mussels (49-45).
Adrian Florencio (4-4) struck out a career-high 10 batters for the Marauders but lasted just three and two-thirds innings, unable to hold a 2-0 lead that Bradenton had built in the third inning.
Hudson Head led off the third with a bloop single to left field and advanced to second base on a Jackson Glenn groundout. Head moved to third on a fielding error by Fort Myers shortstop Keoni Cavaco, then scored the game's first run on a wild pitch by Sean Mooney. Abrahan Gutierrez, who had reached on the Cavaco error, scored on an Endy Rodriguez RBI-single to right field, giving Bradenton a 2-0 lead.
But Mooney recovered to hold the Marauders scoreless in the fourth, and like Florencio, struck out a career-high 10 before yielding to the bullpen for the fifth inning.
The Mighty Mussels struck back in the bottom of the third, as Jake Rucker walked, stole second base, and scored Fort Myers' first run on a throwing error by Marauders shortstop Maikol Escotto. Alerick Soularie followed with a single, but Florencio avoided further damage in the third, escaping a jam with runners on second and third.
But in the bottom of the fourth, Charles Mack reached with one out on a third-strike wild pitch. Misael Urbina then lined a single, and Rucker hit a line drive just out of Head's reach in right field and raced to third base for a triple, plating Mack and Urbina to give the Mussels a 3-2 lead. Florencio struck out Will Holland for his 10th strikeout of the evening, but reliever Wandi Montout entered and uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Rucker to score for a two-run Mussels advantage.
Montout went on to provide two and one-third innings of scoreless relief, and left-hander Nick Dombkowski kept the Mussels scoreless in the seventh and eighth. But Fort Myers relievers Logan Campbell (1-0) and Zaquiel Puentes kept the Marauders pinned down across the final five innings, holding Bradenton scoreless the rest of the way.
The Marauders left a man in scoring position in the fourth, fifth, and ninth innings and finished the game just 1-for-11with runners in scoring position, stranding nine total runners.
The series continues Friday with a doubleheader consisting of two seven-inning games. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Hammond Stadium. RHP Luis Ortiz will start Game 1 for the Marauders against Fort Myers RHP John Stankiewicz, and RHP Jared Jones is scheduled to pitch Game 2 for Bradenton against Mussels LHP Zarion Sharpe.
