Kevin Millwood Keynote Speaker at Crawdads Hot Stove Banquet

The Hickory Crawdads will host their annual Hot Stove Banquet on Tuesday, February 3rd at Rock Barn Golf and Spa. This year's keynote speaker will be Texas Rangers pitcher Kevin Millwood.
Millwood is a native of Bessemer City, NC in Gaston County. After pitching at Bessemer City High School, Millwood was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 11th round of the 1993 draft. He made his debut with the Braves in July of 1997, pitching six seasons for Atlanta. His banner season with the Braves was in 1999 as he won a career high 18 games, while sporting a 2.68 ERA. He received his only career All Star selection that season and finished third in the National League Cy Young voting.
After the 2002 season, Millwood was traded to Philadelphia, where he pitched two seasons for the Phillies. His stint with the Phillies was highlighted by a no-hitter on April 27, 2003.
Millwood pitched for the Cleveland Indians in 2005. Despite a 9-11 record with the Indians, Millwood led the American League with a 2.86 ERA and finished sixth in the Cy Young voting. Following that season, Millwood signed a five year contract with the Texas Rangers. His career record is 142-111 with a 4.06 ERA.
The Hot Stove Banquet will also feature season previews by local high school and college coaches
The event will begin at 6:00 PM with a social gathering. A silent auction will be held during the evening with a number of local and national sports memorabilia items up for bid. Dinner will be served at 7:00 PM with the program to follow. Individual Tickets are $25. Group tables of eight are available for $180.
Tickets can be purchased at L. P. Frans Stadium beginning Monday, January 5th. The front office is open Monday through Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM.
