Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Kannapolis Intimidators, the Class A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, have announced that Alex Gyr will serve as its Broadcaster and Media Relations Director for the 2009 season. Gyr will handle all play-by-play duties this season, while also taking charge of the media relations department.
Gyr, 23, joins the Intimidators after a season calling games for the Lakewood BlueClaws, the Class A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. A graduate of Stanford University, he also comes in with substantial experience with the White Sox organization. Gyr spent the 2007 season covering the South Siders for MLB.com.
"I am thrilled to be joining Kannapolis for the 2009 season," Gyr said. "Both the Intimidators and the White Sox are top notch organizations. The season can't come soon enough."
A native of Palo Alto, California, Gyr spent three years behind the microphone covering Stanford baseball, men's basketball and football. He also served as an associate reporter for MiLB.com in 2006 covering West Coast Minor League Baseball.
Gyr will call all 140 regular season games, beginning on April 9, when the Intimidators host the Asheville Tourists at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.
