Stockton Lightning News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Lightning head athletic trainer Kevin Anderson has been named arenafootball2 league Trainer of the Year, Lightning president Dan Chapman announced today in conjunction with the af2 league office.
The award is the first for Anderson in his af2 career and represents one of four honors received by the Lightning in 2008, in the af2's annual "Best" Team Awards.
"Our organization is very proud of Kevin and we feel this is a well deserved honor," said Chapman. "He is a true professional that is extremely committed to his job and the health and well-being of our football players."
Anderson recently completed his third season with the Lightning as the team's Head Athletic Trainer and also currently serves the same role in minor league hockey with the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL, following a six-year stint at University of the Pacific as an Assistant Athletic Trainer and instructor.
Recognized for his professional excellence, Anderson has served on the training staff for two ECHL All-Star Games (2007, 2008) after receiving the nod in a vote by his ECHL peers. Anderson, a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, has also garnered experience as a fill-in trainer with the Stockton Ports minor league baseball team from 1993-96, and spent two years, prior to that, as an Athletic Training Intern with the National Football League's Los Angeles Rams.
During his tenure with Pacific, Anderson also dedicated his time as Head Athletic Trainer for the Magic Johnson Summer Basketball Camps from 1993-97. He has also ventured as a volunteer athletic trainer for various Professional Bull Riding (PBR) events. He received his Master of Arts degree in Sports Medicine from University of the Pacific in 1995, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pre-Physical Therapy from University of Nevada-Reno in 1993.
Lightning compliance officer John Williams was the recipient of the af2's "Compliance Officer of the Year" award for his on-field efforts related to the logging of player substitutions and enforcement of af2 policy for on-field activities.
A popular and hot-selling item each Saturday night during the af2 season, the FanAttic's red-colored "Crazy Hair" placed second in the af2's "Most Creative Merchandise Item" and the pristine, player-friendly and durable turf of Stockton Arena finished third in the af2's "Best Field" category.
