
Yard Dawgz Mascot, Deizel Dawg, Named Mascot of the Year

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz were awarded two first-place finishes by the arenafootball2 league office today when they announced 14 special end-of-the-year awards. The awards recognize some of the outstanding work done by the 29 af2 teams in various promotional categories. The Yard Dawgz mascot, Deizel Dawg, was named the af2 Mascot of the Year for the third consecutive season. The team website, www.okcyarddawgz.com, also received first place and features Deizel's award-winning Mascot of the Year video.
Oklahoma City also received six other awards, bringing their total to eight - more than any other franchise.
"As an organization, we take pride in our team ventures both on and off of the field," commented Yard Dawgz General Manager Christie Cook. "We work hard on providing quality entertainment and to receive eight league awards is an accomplishment of which our franchise is very proud."
The Yard Dawgz Dance Team won second place for the third consecutive year. The video submitted to the league office, showcasing the 21 member dance team and their many performances during the 2008 season, is also featured on the Yard Dawgz website.
Community relations is an important part of the Yard Dawgz organization and for their involvement with Habitat for Humanity and the VA Hospital, the team won second and third place, respectively. The Dawgz also donated tickets and merchandise to numerous organizations throughout the year including the American Lung Association, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Meals on Wheels, and many more.
Oklahoma City won third best promotional item with a 6-foot-5 Al Hunt growth chart, sponsored by Compassionate Care Hospice, that was given to the first 2,500 fans before the July 19th game when the Dawgz defeated the Tulsa Talons.
The final two awards the Dawgz received were third place finishes for best commercial, produced by New West Group, and best publication for the 2008 Game Day program.
Other awards were given for best operations clip, field, compliance officer, trainer, merchandise, photo of the year, and the af2 cares award. A complete list of winners can be found on the af2 website, www.af2.com.
