Kernels topple Hot Rods in 11 innings, 4-3

Bowling Green, KY - Kevin Moesquit's RBI single in the 11th inning scored Andy Workman as the Kernels edged the Bowling Green Hot Rods in extra innings on Saturday night. The Kernels bullpen combined for 6.1 innings of relief, allowing no runs on only two hits.

With the score tied 3-3 in the 11th inning, Workman led off with a single and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Abel Baker. A wild pitch by Bowling Green reliever Austin Hubbard sent Workman to third, and he came home on Moesquit's RBI single to center.

Stephen Tromblee (1-0) recorded the final four outs for the Kernels, picking up the win. He went 1.1 innings and allowed no runs on no hits while striking out one and walking none. Hubbard (0-1) took the loss for Bowling Green, allowing one run on two hits. He struck out two and walked one.

Jacob Negrete pitched two innings in relief for the Kernels, allowing no runs on no hits while striking out two and walking three. Ty Kelley went three innings and allowed no runs on two hits while striking out six and walking none. Austin Wood started and went 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He struck out four and walked three.

Bowling Green took an early 1-0 lead in the 1st inning on Jeff Malm's RBI single to right field that scored Drew Vettleson. The Hot Rods extended their lead to 2-0 in the 3rd inning when Todd Glaesmann's RBI single plated Ryan Brett.

The Kernels offense came alive in the 5th inning as they plated three runs and took a 3-2 lead. Chevy Clarke's two run home run to right center brought the Kernels within one run. It was Clarke's first home run of the season and brought Gary Mitchell home to score. Later in the inning Ryan Jones reached on a RBI infield single to score Abel Baker and give the Kernels the lead.

The lead was short-lived as Bowling Green tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the 5th inning. Juniel Querecuto singled to lead off the inning and came home on a two out RBI single by Jeff Malm.

Jake Floethe started for the Hot Rods and went five innings, allowing three runs on five hits. He struck out six and walked one. Andrew Bellatti pitched one scoreless inning. Jake Partridge pitched two scoreless innings for Bowling Green.

The Kernels now travel to Dayton to take on the Dayton Dragons for a three game series. Sunday's game begins at 3:00 p.m. (4:00 p.m. eastern). The Kernels return home on April 26 at 6:35 p.m. vs. South Bend. There is a promotion during all 12 of the Kernels April home games.
