
Kernels elect officers

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa â The Cedar Rapids Kernels board of directors held its annual election of officers Tuesday and for the first time in 13 years, the club has a new president.
Tom Barbee was elected president. He replaces Wally Krouse, who stepped down in December after 13 years of guiding the club.
Barbee, 59, is the president of Restaurant Profits Systems, Inc., which owns the Wendy's Restaurant franchises in the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City area.
Barbee served as the Kernels' vice president in 2003.
The other officers elected for the 2004 season are Gary Keoppel, vice president; Rob Brooks, treasurer; and Craig Schulte, secretary. Keoppel previously served as treasurer and Schulte was re-elected secretary.
The Kernels open the 2004 Midwest League baseball season on April 8.
