Kernels continue to give back to community

Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Each season the Midwest League asks member clubs to select a deserving organization from within their community to receive a portion of that year's revenue and the Cedar Rapids Kernels are pleased to announce the club has teamed up with the league to donate $1,400 to the African American Historical Museum and Cultural Center of Iowa.
The museum and cultural center, located at 55 12th Avenue SE in Cedar Rapids, is dedicated to preserving the rich cultural heritage of African Americans in Iowa by creating educational opportunities throughout the state with lectures, seminars, traveling exhibits, and publications.
"With the increasing focus in recent years on the contributions of African American players to the game of baseball, the African American Historical Museum and Cultural Center seemed like a perfect recipient for this donation," Kernels General Manager Jack Roeder said.
With over 100 years in the community, the Kernels are proud to be a long time supporter of worthy causes in the Cedar Rapids area. In February of 2006 the club will once again team with Tanager Place to present the team's annual Hot Stove Banquet. Details on a speaker and the program for the popular off-season event will be released at a later date.
