Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, Texas - Trailing by a run into the 9th, the Frisco RoughRiders were shut down by the San Antonio Missions at Riders Field Saturday night, 5-4. Frisco starter Zak Kent tossed five innings and posted seven strikeouts in the Riders loss.
Kent (1-3) gave up three runs in the top of the 4th inning, but bounced back by returning for the 5th and striking out the side. Riders reliever Avery Weems contributed the final four innings for Frisco with four strikeouts.
San Antonio (17-21, 55-50) struck first in Saturday night's action, tallying three runs on five hits in the top of the 4th. After back-to-back hits to begin the inning, Missions first baseman Brandon Dixon slugged his sixth home run of the season to give San Antonio an early 3-0 lead.
Frisco (22-16, 58-49) responded for their first runs in the bottom of the 5th, beginning with a two-out single from second baseman Luisangel Acuna. Following Acuna's single, Justin Foscue and Kellen Strahm produced consecutive run-scoring hits to cut Saturday's score to 3-2.
After the Missions notched a pair of runs in the top of the 8th, Frisco moved the score back to a one-run game on a base hit from Jonathan Ornelas with two outs to score a pair of runs. Frisco entered the bottom of the 9th trailing 5-4, but couldn't get any action off Missions righty Moises Lugo, who earned the save.
The RoughRiders and Missions close their six-game series Sunday evening at Riders Field with a 6:05 p.m. first pitch. Frisco southpaw Antoine Kelly (0-0, 2.45 ERA) makes his second Double-A start Sunday night, while San Antonio's starter has yet to be determined.
