
Kent Patterson Stops 54 Shots on Goal for Victory

Prescott Valley - The Denver Cutthroats and Arizona Sundogs met for Game Four on Wednesday, April 23 at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley, Arizona. The Cutthroats took a powerful two-goal lead in the opening frame and gained the momentum needed to defeat the Sundogs 4-1 and extend their second round series lead 3-1.
Troy Schwab (A.J. Gale, Steve Kaunisto) lit up the lamp for the opening goal of the night with seven minutes remaining in the first period. Dan Barczuk (Robin Soudek) followed in suit for the Cutthroats second goal and closed the period 2-0 Denver.
Defenseman Mikael Tam scored two goals in the second frame for the Denver Cutthroats. His first goal, assisted by Gale, shot between the Sundogs post four minutes into the second period. Kaunisto and T.J. Fox assisted Tam for the Cutthroats fourth and final goal of the night at the 19:04 mark. Just 40 seconds later, Sebastian Geoffrion (Justin Pender, Johan Ryd) scored Arizona's lone goal of the game.
Denver's netminder Kent Patterson stopped 23 shots on goal in the third frame, the highest number of recorded shots against him in a single period during the post-season. In total, Patterson stopped 54 of 55 shots on goal during Wednesday night's game to top the record-setting 52 shots the Tulsa Oilers fired against him on Saturday, April 12 in the first round. The Cutthroats 4-1 victory over the Sundogs in Game Four improves the team's overall record to 7-3 in the 2014 Playoffs.
