Cutthroats Edge Past Sundogs in Overtime

Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs lost, in their third overtime game of the post-season being narrowly edged out by the Denver Cutthroats 5-4 Tuesday night at Tim's Toyota Center in front of 3,326 fans. The Sundogs trail the Cutthroats in the series, 2-1.

Arizona carried the lead after the first two periods when they got on the board early, 1:30 into the first with a goal from Matt McCready and assisted by David Rutherford. The Cutthroats tied up the score halfway through the period when Aaron McKenzie found the back of the net from Cam Reid and Robin Soudek. With less than four minutes in the opening period Denver gave Arizona the man-advantage after Reid was assessed the only penalty of the first period, receiving two minutes for hooking. Bryan Cameron connected with a pass from Mark Isherwood and Paul Mcilveen to register the Sundogs first of two power play goals.

Only two minutes into the second period Matt Forney lit the lamp for Arizona's second power play goal after Steve Kaunisto was called for cross checking. Shawn Limpright and Rutherford tallied the helpers. Denver's Reid evened up the game scoring 10:15 into the period from Kyle Fletcher and two minutes later posted his second after a Denver player crashed into Sundogs netminder Andrew Engelage. Arizona took back the lead with a goal from Kevin Baker 15:42 into the second with assists going to Rutherford and Cameron.

The game would begin the third period with 4-on-4 hockey after Sebastian Geoffrion was called for kneeing late in the second and Soudek received two for interference. 30 seconds into the period Kaunisto equalized the game for Denver sending it into overtime where Kaunisto would tally the game winning goal with 2:25 remaining in the extra period. Shortly into overtime goaltender, Adam Brown entered after Engelage skated off with an injury. Brown received the loss making eight out of nine saves in overtime. Engelage faced 33 shots and made 29 saves on net. Sundogs outshot the Cutthroats 43-42. Arizona was 2-4 on the power play and Denver was 0-4.

The action continues tomorrow when the Sundogs face the Cutthroats in Game 4 at Tim's Toyota Center. $5 tickets are still available by contacting an account executive or calling the box office..
