Cutthroats Come Back for Victory

Prescott Valley - The Denver Cutthroats headed to Prescott Valley, Arizona for Game Three against the Arizona Sundogs on Tuesday, April 22 at Tim's Toyota Center. The Cutthroats came back from a two-goal deficit to defeat the Sundogs 5-4 in a sudden death overtime.

The Sundogs took an early lead in the opening frame with a goal by Matt McCready (David Rutherford). Aaron MacKenzie (Cam Reid, Robin Soudek) scored the Cutthroats first goal of the night to tie the score at one. Bryan Cameron (Mark Isherwood, Paul McIlveen) scored his first goal in the 2014 Playoffs to give Arizona a 2-1 lead over Denver with 2:10 remaining in the period.

Mike Forney (Shawn Limpright, Rutherford) extended the Sundogs lead with a shot past the Cutthroats netminder Kent Patterson. A goal by Cam Reid (Kyle Fletcher) cut Denver's deficit to one. Just two minutes later, Reid (Garett Bembridge, Lee Moffie) scored his second goal of the night and third in the post-season to tie the score at three. Kevin Baker (Rutherford, Cameron) reclaimed the Sundogs lead for the third time in the night to give Arizona a 4-3 advantage over the Denver Cutthroats.

Just thirty seconds into the third period, Cutthroats Steve Kaunisto (Mikael Tam, Troy Schwab) lit up the red light with a net bender to even the score at four and send the game into overtime.

It took over 17 minutes in the sudden death overtime period for the game winning goal to be scored. Denver's Steve Kaunisto (Fletcher, J.P. Chabot) was holding the stick that sent the puck across the crease to close the night 5-4 Cutthroats. The Cutthroats have won three of three overtimes in the 2014 Playoffs and served the Sundogs their first sudden death loss in the post-season.

The Denver Cutthroats and Arizona Sundogs will hit the ice for Game Four in the second round of the 2014 Playoffs on Wednesday, April 23.
