Klamath Falls Gems News Release

KLAMATH FALLS, OR - The Kelowna Falcons took Sunday night's game into overtime in beating the Klamath Falls Gems, 7-6, in a see-saw battle at Kiger Stadium.

After the Gems tied the game at 6 in the bottom of the 10th inning, Kelowna's Nick Colwell singled with two outs in the top of the 12th, scoring Beau Hanowski with the go-ahead run. After Gems 1B Nick Miller was hit by a pitch in to lead off the bottom of the 12th, Kelowna reliever Parker Trewin shut down the Gems to finish the game and give Kelowna the win.

Gems starter Hunter Greenwood, getting a spot start from new Head Coach John Welker, was the first of five pitchers used by Klamath Falls. The first four each gave up one earned run, with Drew Sandler, in his pitching debut, going one-third of an inning to finish the 12 for the Gems. Three of the Falcons' runs were unearned.

Welker took over for former Gems Coach Brian Embery earlier in the day. Embery resigned on Sunday, citing family and personal issues.

The Gems return for the second game of the three-game home series Monday night at 7:05 p.m.
