Kelowna Falcons Disappointing Loss

In their shortest game of the year, the Falcons held a 2-1 lead with six outs to go and lost 6-2 on Wednesday night in Bend.

The Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Josh Croft doubled home Brandon Grimsley who had reached on an error. The Elks mishap led to a run scored by Scotland Church, who doubled to begin the inning.

It appeared that would be the only scoring starting pitcher Jeremy Alderman needed. He threw a gem, lasting 6.2 innings, giving up a run on just two hits, while striking out three.

Riley Barr got the Falcons into the eighth with the lead, and just six outs remaining when the wheels fell off. He didn't get out of the eighth allowing five runs on three hits and walked two, as he suffers his second loss of the summer.

The offense of the Falcons was led by Grimsley who collected three hits, while Church had a pair. The Falcons outhit the Elks 7-6 but lost for the 17th time this season.

The Falcons (7-17) will now have a day off before opening up an important East Division series with the Wenatchee Applesox (13-11) at Elks Stadium. First pitch on Friday is at 6:35pm.
