Everett Silvertips News Release

Everett, WA - Everett Defensemen led the Silvertips offense Saturday night in a close battle with the Rockets, narrowly missing an upset over Western Conference fourth ranked Kelowna, 3-2. Graham Potuer and Trevor Bauer scored for Everett, while WHL rookie leading scorer Kellan Tochkin, Byron Froese and Shane Harper provided the assists tonight. Thomas Heemskerk had a solid performance in net stopping 43 of 46 shots Saturday night.

This brings the 'Tips record to 25-28-7-2 with 59 points in 62 games played taking them to seventh place in the Western Conference, standing three points behind the Kamloops Blazers. Silvertips are now 3-5-1-1 in their last 10 games. The Silvertips return to action Friday night heading to Kennewick, WA to face the Tri-City Americans at 7:05.

Graham Potuer wasted no time getting Everett on the board Saturday night. After a great shift of offensive zone pressure from the 'Tips, Potuer found the puck at the blue line and fired a hard slap shot past Mark Guggenberger five-hole at 2 minutes and 50 seconds for a quick 1-0 lead. The Silvertips defenseman continued to provide the offense for Everett, this time in the form of Trevor Bauer who scored his first career WHL goal at 4:24. Bauer received a pass from Byron Froese who then beat Guggenberger with a wrist shot from the point improving Everett's score to 2-0. Guggenberger was pulled after making three saves on five shots in favor of Adam Brown at 4:24. Everett had a strong first period outshooting the Kelowna Rockets 15-8.

The Rockets would come out fast to start the second period controlling the play in Everett's zone. Strong play led to Kelowna's first goal of the night coming from Lucas Bloodoff at 1:51. Hounding the net, Bloodoff put a wrist shot on goal and created a scramble in the crease where the puck eventually found its way into the net. It didn't take much longer for Kelowna to tie the game at two, when Tyler Myers fired a hard one-timer from the point on the power play beating Hemmskerk top shelf, blocker side. A Campbell Elynuik tripping call led to Kelowna's second of the night at 5:36. Kelowna's domination of the period showed in the shot total which favored the Rockets 24-5. Thomas Heemskerk's solid play in the period would keep the game tied 2-2.

Myers added his second goal of the night just 17 seconds into the third period. Myers fired a hard wrist shot from the point which got past a screened Heemskerk for his eighth goal of the season, giving the Rockets a 3-2 lead. Coach John Becanic would pull Heemskerk for an extra attacker at 18:40, but the Silvertips could not find the back of the net to tie the game, Kelowna held on for a 3-2 victory.
