The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-3 in overtime on Friday night in Medicine Hat.
Mark Rassell(40) opened the scoring 42 seconds into the first frame to give Medicine Hat an early 1-0 lead. Rassell(41) extended the Tigers lead to 2-0 at 5:43. Leif Mattson(16) got the Rockets on the board with 15 seconds to go in the period and Kelowna trailed 2-1 after 20 minutes.
At 17:39 of the middle period Jaeger White(8) made it 3-1 Tigers and the Rockets trailed by two after 40 minutes.
Kole Lind(25) brought the Rockets back within one at 5:20 of the final stanza. Conner Bruggen-Cate accepted a pass from Gordie Ballhorn in the slot and sniped his 14th to tie things up 3-3 on the power play at 8:14. The game needed overtime.
In overtime Rockets Captain Cal Foote(10) took off on a breakaway at 3:01 and ended it 4-3 in Kelowna's favour.
Gordie Ballhorn recorded two assists in the winning effort.
Brodan Salmond's record improves to 5-5-0-1 after stopping 29 of 32 shots.
Kelowna's record improves to 31-14-2-1.
The Rockets are back in action on Saturday night when they take on the Red Deer Rebels at the Enmax Centrium. Puck drop is at 6:00pm.
Kelowna will be back at Prospera Place on Tuesday, January 30th when they face the Medicine Hat Tigers in a re-match.
