American Conference

Pensacola vs. Greenville – Greenville wins 3-1

Mike Brodeur stopped 29 shots for his first shutout of the playoffs to help the Greenville Grrrowl close out the Brabham Cup Champion Pensacola Ice Pilots three games to one in their best-of-five American Conference Quarter Final series.

Dylan Staley and David Herring scored a pair of power play goals to register a 2-0 Grrrowl advantage after two periods of play.

In the third, Brodeur continued his solid play while Pensacola was forced to pull Frederic Cloutier for an extra attacker late in the game. Greenville would score into the empty Ice Pilots cage twice, cementing a 4-0 win and moving the Grrrowl into the second round of the Kelly Cup playoffs.

Cloutier made 38 saves in the loss.

National Conference

Reading vs. Toledo – Reading wins 3-1

Jeff Miles scored twice in the third period to help lead the Reading Royals to a 5-2 win over the Toledo Storm, closing out their opening round playoff series by a three games to one count.

Recently returned from the American Hockey League, Ryan Kinasewich opened the scoring at 2:45 before Robert Snowball evened the contest 2:04 later. Cail MacLean gave the Royals the lead back after two periods, but Nick Parillo's power play goal tied the game at 2-2 and set the stage for Miles' heroics.

Miles would pot his first marker at 10:39, followed by a power play goal at 15:05 for a 4-2 Royals lead. Kinasewich picked up the lone assist on both goals for Reading.

Late in the game, Adam Borzecki was whistled for boarding at 17:51, giving the Storm a shot at getting back within a goal. Pulling netminder Scott Fankhouser for the extra attacker, Toledo was not only unable to score but also victimized by an empty net shorthanded goal by Preston Mizzi to seal the game for Reading by a 5-2 final.

Barry Brust once again played well in net for Reading, stopping 38 shots to earn the win. Fankhouser took the loss with 29 saves.
