April 20, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Alaska's top two scorers finished 1-2 in the CCM Tacks ECHL Most Valuable Player voting, with Scott Gomez taking home the award, followed by linemate Chris Minard.

Gomez won the ECHL scoring championship with 86 points on 13 goals and a league-high 73 assists in only 61 games. He also led the team with a +26 rating while racking up 26 multiple-point games, including a pair of five-assist performances in wins over Victoria January 5 and January 8. Gomez, a two-time Stanley Cup winner and the 2000 NHL Rookie of the Year while playing for the New Jersey Devils, posted four points (1g-3a) in the first three games of the Kelly Cup Playoffs before suffering a fractured pubic bone in his pelvis during Game 4 of Alaska's opening round series against Bakersfield, eventually won by the Aces in five games.

Despite being out for the season, Gomez will be on the bench alongside Alaska head coach Davis Payne during the West Division Finals, which begin Friday in Long Beach at 6:30 p.m. ADT on KFQD 750 AM. Playoff tickets at Sullivan Arena for the West Finals are now on sale at the team offices, located at the corner of 15th and Gambell.

Minard placed second in the voting of ECHL coaches after a season in which he led the league with 49 goals and finished fourth overall in the scoring race with 78 points (49g-29a) in 69 games. He set an Aces team record with five goals in a win over Victoria January 8, one of two hat tricks he recorded this season on his way to scoring the most goals by an ECHL player since the 2000-01 season. Pensacola goaltender Frederic Cloutier and Idaho netminder Frank Doyle tied for third in the voting while Toledo's Carl Mallette placed fifth.

Games One and Two of the West Division Finals will be played at Long Beach Arena, with the series shifting to Anchorage for Game Three Monday, April 25 at 7:15 p.m. Games Four and Five, if necessary, will be played at Sullivan Arena April 28 and 29. All games will be broadcast live on KFQD and all home games will be made available on a pay-per-view basis at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks.
