Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans and Wheeling Nailers meet in Game 2 of the ECHL Kelly Cup Finals this afternoon at 4:05 PM at Allen Event Center.
The Allen Americans jumped out to a 2-0 lead last night and never looked back, on their way to a 5-3 victory over Wheeling in Game 1 of the ECHL Kelly Cup Finals. Allen built a 4-1 lead in the second period before giving up two power play goals to the Nailers in the third to make it a one-goal game. Gary Steffes would answer with his 8th of the playoffs to give Allen a two-goal cushion and seal the game one victory.
"We knew they weren't going to just roll over and give up, " said Gary Steffes. "This Wheeling team has had amazing comebacks throughout the playoffs, so you can't take a shift off or they'll make you pay."
Greger Hanson scored his team leading 12th goal of the postseason last night, while Gary Steffes extended his playoffs point streak to five games. Aaron Gens added an assist last night in just his second game back after returning from injury, while Rick Pinkston picked up his first point of the playoffs assisting on Tristan King's second goal of the game.
"We picked up points from a lot of different people in our lineup last night," said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson. "Our depth is a big key for us in this series."
