The Keene Swamp Bats picked up their third straight victory on Friday night as they defeated the Laconia Muskrats by a score of 6-1.
Keene moves into third place in the Northern Division with the win and is now 20-21 on the season, while Laconia finishes the regular season at 20-22.
The Swamp Bats took an early lead in the bottom half of the second with an RBI single by Patrick McGrath (Washington State) with the bases loaded and two outs.
With four runs in the bottom of the third, Keene opened up a 5-0 lead. Back-to-back walks to start the inning singled the end of the night for Muskrats starter Adam Frank (Dartmouth). As a whole, four straight batters reached to start the inning. The big blow in the inning was a two-run single by Bret Dennis (St. John's). The other runs in the inning were Zach Lauricella (St. John's) scoring on a wild pitch for Keene and Connor Fitzsimons (Central Conn State) drove in a run with a sac fly.
Frank (0-2) lasted just two innings, allowing three runs on two hits, walking four and striking out three.
The only run of the night for Laconia came in the top of the sixth as Ben Miller (Nebraska) drove in Jacob Henson (St. Louis) with a sac fly to make it 5-1.
The Swamp Bats answered the run right back in the bottom half of the sixth with McGrath driving in his second run of the night with a sac fly that scored Alex Liquori (Kennesaw State).
Three more runs came across for Keene in the home half of the eighth. Liquori walked to lead off, stole second and scored on a throwing error by Laconia reliever Adam Spracklin (UNC Asheville). McGrath singled with one out and eventually came around to score on a passed ball. The final run of the night was driven in by Jarred Mederos (St. John's) that scored Lauricella.
Connor Jones (Virginia) got the win for Keene, going 5.2 innings and allowing one run on five hits, walking three and fanning four. He is now 3-0.
The Swamp Bats can clinch a playoff spot with a win tomorrow night in the season finale against the Sanford Mainers at Goodall Park at 6:30.
