Keene Swamp Bats News Release
The Swamp Bats opened the season on the road against the Valley Blue Sox. The Swamp Bats were coming off a 21-21 season. The Swamp Bats opened the season opener in a 4-0 loss due to the excellent pitching from the Valley Blue Sox. Right off the bat, Bryan Goosens pitched well and the pitching staff from the Blue Sox only allowed 4 hits through 9 innings. Goosens himself pitched through 7 innings and had 6 strikeouts.
However, The Swamp Bats allowed 5 walks early on. Dan Celluci was 1 for 2 with a single drew 2 walks and Lucas Luopa had 2 walks as well. Chris Gonzalez was the highlight hitter for the Valley Blue Sox and went 2 for 4 with an RBI.
Starting Swamp Bats pitcher Kyle Gauthier pitched through only 4 innings. He allowed 7 hits with 3 earned runs but 5 strikeouts. Top Balyor recruit and shortstop Jon Ducoff for the Blue Sox had an inside the park home run after Larry Crisler failed to make the diving catch in center field. 12 runners left on base for the Swamp Bats as the opportunities for the Swamp Bats were there but could not be executed.
Manager Dan Moylan could not attend the game as well due to his coaching duties at Keene High School. The Swamp Bats look to have their first win of the season Friday night in its home opener against North Adams SteepleCats.
