New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, N.J. - The New Jersey Jackals announced they have re-signed Kearny native and former Montclair State University standout Jeff Gogal for the 2012 season.
Gogal, 29, served as the Jackals closer in 2011, finishing second in the Can-Am League with 15 saves in 16 chances. In 37 appearances, the southpaw went 1-4 with a 3.32 ERA, striking out 55 batters and walking just 11 in 40.2 innings. Gogal, who successfully converted his first 14 save chances of the season, was one of just two relievers to earn league Pitcher of the Week honors when he took home the award on June 5. He held left-handed hitters to a .109 average (5-for-46) and fanned a league-best 12.2 batters per nine innings.
"I'm excited to be back with the Jackals," Gogal said. "A lot of the core group is coming back. We came up just a little bit short last season but it's a great group of guys and we should have a solid team again."
A 12th round pick by the Florida Marlins in the 2004 draft, Gogal has spent parts of four seasons at the Double-A level or above, earning Southern League Mid-Season All-Star accolades in 2008 with the Carolina Mudcats when he appeared in a career-high 47 games and went 6-2 with a 2.93 ERA. Gogal reached the Triple-A level in 2010 and finished that season with a 2.20 ERA in 37 contests at three levels in the Marlins' organization.
Over seven professional seasons, Gogal is 18-19 with a 3.69 ERA and 341 strikeouts in 327 innings.
Gogal was a four-year member of the Montclair State starting rotation from 2001-2004, compiling a 27-6 record during his college career and helping lead the Red Hawks to an appearance in the Division III World Series as a freshman. Prior to pitching at Montclair State, he starred at nearby Kearny High School.
The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, N.J.
