Sporting Kansas City News Release
Wizards Head To The Big Apple
Following a well-deserved week off from play, the Kansas City Wizards hit the road this weekend for a match this Saturday, July 22nd, at Red Bull New York. The Wizards and Red Bulls have met once already this season, battling to a 1-1 draw at Arrowhead Stadium on June 3rd. Kansas City is still looking to break out of its current funk and a win at Giants Stadium on Saturday night could do just that. Currently tied for third with 20 points, the Wizards sit just four points shy of second place but just two points ahead of fifth place in the bunched up Eastern Conference. Prior to its midweek showdown at Columbus this Wednesday, New York is sixth in the East, just three points short of the third place Wizards. Altogether, there are only seven points separating the sixth place Red Bulls and second place New England Revolution. Kickoff for Saturday's match is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT, and can be seen live on both HDNet and the MLS Direct Kick Package.
Reminder: Wizards vs. Revolution on July 29
Following this weekend's match in New York, the Wizards return home to host the New England Revolution on July 29th. Don't forget, next Saturday's match against the Revs was originally scheduled for this Wednesday the 19th but changed to the 29th earlier this season. Kickoff for the match at Arrowhead Stadium on July 29th remains 7:30 p.m. CT. Since the match was first scheduled to take place on a Wednesday night and then moved to a Saturday night, the Wizards will still be offering their always popular $1 Wednesday promotion for the game. Thanks to Johnsonville, Mrs. Bairds and Edy's, the Wizards will be offering $1 hot dogs and $1 Nestle Ice Cream bars at the Arrowhead Stadium concession stands that Saturday.

Recent signee Dave van den Bergh is hopes to make his debut as a Wizard this Saturday against the Red Bulls. A standout winger from Dutch Eredivisie side FC Utrecht, van den Bergh's rights were acquired on June 2nd but Kansas City had to wait to utilize the services of van den Bergh until FIFA's International Transfer Window opened on this week on July 17th.

Fresh off of a 3-2 come-from-behind victory this past Sunday over the Houston Dynamo reserves at the Arrowhead Practice Facility, Kansas City has strengthened its hold on first place in the Reserve Division with a 5-2-0 record. The Red Bulls' reserves boast a 2-2-1 record thus far in 2006. Originally scheduled to be played on Sunday morning, the reserve match will now take place immediately following the full side match on Saturday night. The reserve match will not be televised.
