Two wins over the NAHL's top team, the Texas Tornado, propelled Fairbanks Ice Dogs goalie Jared Kaufmann to his selection as Sherwood-NAHL Defensive Player of the Week for Week Four.
Kaufmann halted the Tornado's 25-game winning streak Friday by stopping 43 shots in a 2-1 win at the Big Dipper in Fairbanks, including stopping Justin Liut on a breakaway with 2:35 left in the game and Karl Sellan twice in the final two minutes.
"I'm worn out," a drained Kaufmann told the Fairbanks News-Miner. "I spent all week preparing for this. My main focus was to beat them because I've had quite a few chances in the past but never got the win."
The Roseville, Minnesota native got another chance the next night and stopped 45 shots in a 3-2 win, including 22 of 23 in the first period alone.
