Published on October 21, 2004 under North American Hockey League (NAHL) News Release
The largest junior hockey showcase ever is being played in Blaine, Minnesota, from October 20-23, featuring the teams of the NAHL as well as those of the Eastern Junior Hockey League.
For the first time, NAHL and EJHL teams will face off against each other and have the results count in their respective league's standings. Thirty teams will compete in 60 games, as more than 700 junior age players put their skills on display for fans and scouts alike.
Dozens college and pro scouts are in Blaine, as players are trying to catch the eye of potential future teams. Both the NAHL and EJHL are open to players 20-and-under.
The four-day schedule begin Wednesday at 9 a.m. at Schwan's Super Rink in Blaine. The Super Rink hosts 12 games each day of the Showcase, and additional games are played every day at nearby Fogerty Arena. The Showcase schedule and other Showcase information is available by clicking here.
The first faceoff is at 9 a.m. daily at Schwan's Super Rink, and 10 a.m. at Fogerty.
Tickets are $15 daily for adults ($50 Showcase pass), and $6 daily for students ($15 Showcase pass). A Showcase pass for scouts is $65. Youth hockey players can save $1 off daily admission by wearing their hockey jersey.
"An event of this magnitude has never been done before, and we're tremendously excited to bring this to Blaine for the second straight year," said NAHL commissioner Michael Santos. "What will really be amazing is that hockey fans from Minnesota will be able to see 700 junior-aged hockey players from across the country come together in one place. With school out over the four-day MEA Weekend, high school and youth hockey players will get a real feel for what Junior A hockey is all about."
