Kansas City Knights Holiday Hoops-Fest basketball event a huge success

The 2002 ABA Champion Kansas City Knights hosted a Holiday Hoops-Fest basketball weekend on December 27-29 at Dale's Athletic Club in Overland Park. Close to 400 boys and girls in grades kindergarten through 8th participated in instructional clinics and a 3-on-3 tournament. The event helped raise money for the Ronald McDonald House and was conducted by the Knights coaching staff, including Head Coach Kevin Pritchard and his assistants Chad Buchanan, Bob Foley, and Rex Walters.

"This was our first Holiday Hoops-Fest and it was an unbelievable success", said Coach Pritchard, "I am already looking forward to next year's tournament!"

The 3-on-3 teams battled it out for two days to find champions for both the boys and the girls in each age group. Congratulations to the winning teams:

Boys

5th Grade Division – COUGARS (Tyler Nepote, Joe Solar, (Nolan Parker, Chris Wallace)

6th Grade Division – SOUTH SIDE BALLERS (Joseph Wake- field, DeMarco Ewing, Mychael Anderson, Mark Quinn, Rico Richard- son)

7th Grade Division – HEAT (Josh Petersen, Patrick Kinne, Sam Kinne)

8th Grade Division – HOOPSTERS (Nathan Padia, Daniel Green, Christian Ballard, Nick Devin)

Girls

5th/6th Grade Division – SANTA'S SHOOTERS (Jennifer Wolfe, Chelsea Harris, Kelsey Sullivan, Samantha Peterson)

"The tournament was great!" comments Tyler Nepote, a member of the 5th grade championship team, the Cougars. "The games were fun and the competition was great. I would definitely participate next year."

All Holiday Hoops-Fest tournament participants received a Knights holiday gift package, including a t-shirt, a Knights ABA championship ring, an ABA mini basketball, and many other gifts from sponsoring companies such as Dale's Athletic Club, the Great American Basketball League, Blue Valley Recreation, Bank of Blue Valley, and Papa John's Pizza.

The Holiday Hoops-Fest is just one of many camps, clinics, and tournaments the Knights have planned for the upcoming year. The Knights coaching staff is dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of the game to area youth.
