January 30, 2023 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Kansas City Current News Release
KANSAS CITY - The Kansas City Current opened the 2023 preseason today with 30 players as the club looks to improve on its NWSL finalist finish in 2022.
The club returns key veterans from last season, including AD Franch, Desiree Scott and 2022 leading scorers Kristen Hamilton and Cece Kizer. New to the roster for 2023 are free agent additions Debinha, Vanessa DiBernardo and Morgan Gautrat and international forward Mimmi Larsson.
Midfielder Claire Lavogez suffered a torn ACL in the 2022 quarterfinal match last October and is still in the process of recovery. She is expected to be available midseason once her recovery is complete.
Midfielder Sam Mewis continues to recover from her progressive injury to her right leg. In support of Mewis, the club has bought out her previous contract and signed her to a new contract through the 2023 season that is focused on her recovery and future.
The Current will open camp at the team's training facility in Riverside, Missouri before heading to IMG Academy in Florida from Feb. 6 - March 1 then to San Diego, Calif. from March 5 - 14. A full preseason game schedule will be released at a later date.
