Kansas City Current Defender Hailie Mace Named to USWNT Roster for September Friendlies against Nigeria
August 24, 2022 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Kansas City Current News Release
CHICAGO - Kansas City Current defender Hailie Mace will replace Washington Spirit defender Kelley O'Hara on the 23-player U.S. Women's National Team roster for the upcoming friendly matches vs. Nigeria.
The USA will square off with the Super Falcons on Sept. 3 at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas (Kickoff at 12:30 p.m. CT with coverage beginning at Noon CT on FOX) and again Sept. 6 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C., presented by Allstate (5 p.m. CT on ESPN2).
The 25-year-old Mace has been a pivotal piece for the Current, who are on an 11-game unbeaten run and have moved up to fourth in the NWSL standings. She has 11 starts and 12 appearances for Kansas City this season with two assists and two goals, both game winners. Mace's goal against the San Diego Wave was featured on SportsCenter's Top 10 plays for Aug. 7.
O'Hara was ruled out of camp due to a lingering hip injury that needs some extended rest, which allows Mace to get her first official call-up since the 2018 Concacaf Women's Championship which served as qualifying for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. Mace played in one match in that tournament, going the entire 90 minutes vs. Panama. She also played in friendlies vs. Mexico and Chile earlier in 2018 and has three total caps.
Mace also attended the U.S. Women's National Team Identification Training Camp in December of 2019.
