Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 28, 2012) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators twice came from behind to take down the Rome Braves, 6-4, on Monday afternoon at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. The Intimidators (22-28) used a pair of three-run innings in the third and seventh to take the first game of a three-game series against the Braves (13-38).
In his season debut with Kannapolis, Jason Van Skike (1-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk with one strikeouts. Bryan Blough worked a scoreless ninth inning for his third straight save (3), ending the game by inducing a double-play ball off the bat of former Intimidator Sergio Miranda.
The Intimidators reclaimed the lead against Ernesto Silva in the seventh inning thanks to four straight hits by Kevan Smith, Mark Haddow, Rangel Ravelo and Cyle Hankerd as well as a pair of Braves errors putting Kannapolis back in front, 6-4.
After Brandon Drury reached base on an Intimidators error to lead off the second inning, Miranda -- who played for Kannapolis in 2007 and 2008 -- opened the scoring with a two-out, two-run infield single.
Kannapolis jumped in front in the bottom of the third inning. Keenyn Walker stretched for a one-out double, and Ross Wilson was hit by a pitch before Kevan Smith brought them both home with a double off the wall in right field to tie the game, 2-2. Mark Haddow drove the next pitch into left field to cash Smith a 3-2 lead.
Rome took the lead in the sixth inning against reliever Stew Brase. Brandon Drury tied the game with an RBI-double and scored on Cory Brownsten's single for a 4-3 Rome lead.
Intimidators starter Blair Walters left the game after five innings of work, allowing two unearned runs on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks in no decision. Braves starter Greg Ross also took no decision, giving up three runs and scattering 10 hits over six innings.
The Intimidators continue the series against Rome on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at CMC-NorthEast Stadium as Kannapolis LHP Jefferson Olacio makes his second start of the season. Rome will counter with RHP Rafael Briceno. For ticket information, call the box office at (704) 932-3267 or visit www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
