Kannapolis Holds off Delmarva in Rain-Shortened Game

In a rain-shortened game at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, the Intimidators held on to beat the Shorebirds 3-2 in seven innings, extending their win streak to six games.

The Intimidators (13-6) got the scoring going in the second inning off Shorebirds' Michael Baumann with one out, as Anthony Villa legged out an infield single to third baseman Trevor Craport. On a swinging strikeout to Evan Skoug, Villa stole second base to get in to scoring position for Tate Blackman. The former Rebel hit a single to center field, scoring Villa to put the Intimidators up 1-0.

In the third, Luis Gonzalez helped the I's put up their second run of the game with a one-out single up the middle. After a Laz Rivera sacrifice bunt and a Justin Yurchak walk to put runners at first and second, Craig Dedelow smacked a single to left fielder Zach Jarrett, scoring the speedy Gonzalez from second base.

After four strong innings on the mound for Kannapolis starter John Parke (W, 3-0) scattering five Delmarva hits, the Shorebirds finally manufactured a run after back-to-back doubles from Mason McCoy and Kirvin Moesquit. With Will Robertson at the plate for Delmarva, Parke threw a wild pitch, allowing Moesquit to touche home for the second run of the inning.

One inning later in the sixth, the hot-hitting Blackman stepped up to the plate for Kannapolis with two outs, lacing a ball into center field, bringing up eight-hole hitter, Michael Hickman. With the leading run 180 feet away, the I's first baseman hit a groundball to short, as Craport threw the ball wildly to first base, allowing Blackman to score the third run for Kannapolis.

Up by one in the sixth, Zach Lewis (S, 1) got the call out of the bullpen from manager Justin Jirschele, as the Illinois native struck out two of the six batters he faced in the sixth and the seventh. With rain starting to pour down on the field in Salisbury, Maryland, the game, much like most the South Athletic League, was shortened.

With the win, the Intimidators extend their win-streak to six games, putting their streak back on the line Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m.
