Missouri River Otters News Release

The Missouri River Otters of the United Hockey League are proud to announce the signing of Kevin Kaminski to a two-year deal as general manager and head coach.

A press conference is scheduled for 11 A.M. on Tuesday, June 15 at the Family Arena's Locker Room Bar & Grill to officially announce the signing.

"Kevin is the perfect fit for the River Otter family," said Mike Shanahan Jr., president and governor of the River Otters. "He is a character guy with a fantastic work ethic, which is just what we needed."

Kaminski, 35, has more than 500 professional games on his playing resume, including more than 100 in the National Hockey League. His physical play made him a fan favorite almost everywhere he went, including a four-year stint with the Washington Capitals in the mid-1990's.

"I'm very excited to be part of a new era in River Otters hockey," said Kaminski, who spent the last two seasons coaching the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the West Coast Hockey League. "It's a great opportunity and a great honor to be the head coach of the River Otters and to be working with one of the best families in hockey [the Shanahan's]."

Kaminski, a native of Churchbridge, Saskatchewan, played in 1990-91 with the Fort Wayne Komets when they were part of the now defunct International Hockey League. In that season he registered 24 points while racking up 455 penalty minutes, and was beloved by the Komet faithful.

Kaminski beat out more than 50 other applicants for the position with the Otters, and one of his main goals is to build a team that plays with his personality on the ice.

"I want this team to be relentless," he said, "and bring a physical brand of hockey to Missouri. I want to bring in a good core of veterans and a talented and feisty group of rookies, and we'll have a winning attitude."

Kaminski is supported by his wife, Megan, and their daughters, Alexia, 8, McKenna, 7, and Katarina, 2 going on 3!
