Kalamazoo's Ryan Nie named UHL Rookie of the Month

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Tuesday that Kalamazoo Wings goaltender Ryan Nie has been named Easton UHL Rookie of the Month for February.

Nie finished the month with a 4-2-2 record, a 1.58 goals against average (GAA) and a .944 save percentage (.SPCT) in 10 games played. He recorded shutouts in three consecutive starts, had four shutouts in the month and held the opponent scoreless in two relief performances. He also had a scoreless streak of 214:00 consecutive minutes.

His first shutout was a 3-0 victory over the Port Huron Flags on Feb. 10. Making 24 saves, he shut out Elmira on Feb. 14, 3-0. He followed that performance with a 26-save blanking of Port Huron on Feb. 16 and a 24-save shutout against Flint on Feb. 17. The 21-year-old native of Nanticoke, Ontario currently leads the UHL in shutouts (five), GAA (2.19) and SPCT (.925), and he has a 13-6-4 record in 26 games played this season.

Other players nominated for the Easton UHL Rookie of the Month include: Bloomington forward Jon Booras, Elmira defenseman Derek Miller, Flint forward Jordan Fox, Fort Wayne left wing Matt Syroczynski, Muskegon goaltender Ryan Cyr, Port Huron Flags goaltender Dustin Traylen and Rockford defenseman Luke Fritshaw.

The Easton UHL Rookie of the Month recognizes the performance of players who have played in 60 or fewer professional games and goaltenders who have played 3,600 or fewer professional minutes prior to this season.
