Fort Wayne's J.C. Ruid and Rockford's Frederic Cloutier earn monthly honors

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Tuesday that Fort Wayne Komets center J.C. Ruid has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Month and Rockford IceHogs goaltender Frederic Cloutier has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Month for February.

Ruid completed the month with 20 points (8g, 12a) and a plus-12 rating in 15 games played. He had four multiple-point games during the month, including a two goal, two assist performance against the Chicago Hounds on Feb. 17. With a three-point night on Feb. 3 against the Kalamazoo Wings, he tallied the game-winning goal. In addidion he was clutch on special teams, scoring three short-handed goals and assisting four scores on the power play. The 32-year-old native of Ballston Spa, New York leads the Komets in scoring and ranks second in the UHL with 75 points in 59 games played. Ruid ranks second in the league with 35 goals, and his 40 assists rank fifth. In addidition, he leads the UHL in shootout goals (seven) and is tied for second with seven game-winning goals.

Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Month include: Bloomington center John Spoltore, Chicago forward Drew Otten, Elmira right wing Brent Cullaton, Flint left wing Jeff Zehr, Kalamazoo left wing Nick Bootland, Muskegon right wing Rustyn Dolyny, Port Huron center Steve Hildenbrand, Quad City forward Luke Stauffacher and Rockford center Kevin Ulanski.

Cloutier finished the month with an 11-0-1 record, a 1.83 goals against average (GAA), a .930 save percentage (SPCT) and one shutout. With two streaks of five or more consecutive victories, he boosted the IceHogs to an unbeaten month. He stopped all 29 shots in a 3-0 shutout against the Elmira Jackals on Feb. 23. In addition, he only allowed one goal in five of his starts which included a streak of four consecutive starts from Feb. 7-14. The 25-year-old native of Saint-Honore, Quebec ranks second in the UHL in wins (31), and he ranks third with a 2.33 GAA and a .921 SPCT. He ranks fifth in the league with 1,229 saves and has a record of 19-1-2 since the start of the new year.

Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Month include: Chicago's Brenden Cuthbert, Elmira's David Lemanowicz, Flint's Jason Muzzatti, Fort Wayne's Kevin St. Pierre, Kalamazoo's Ryan Nie, Muskegon's Ryan Cyr, Port Huron's Dustin Traylen and Quad City's Jason Tapp.
