Kalamazoo's Nie Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J.- Ryan Nie of the Kalamazoo Wings is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Jan. 10-16. This is the fifth time in his career that Nie has won the ECHL ‚¬Ë†Goaltender of the Week award.

The 25 year old was 2-0-1 with a goals-against average of 1.66 and a save percentage of .943 in three appearances last week.

Nie opened the week with 24 saves in a 3-2 overtime loss at Cincinnati on Wednesday. He turned aside 30 of 31 shots in a 2-1 win at South ‚¬Ë†Division-leading Greenville on Saturday and ended the week with 28 saves in a 3-1 win at South ‚¬Ë†Carolina on Sunday.

The Naticoke, Ontario native has appeared in 26 games for the K-Wings this season posting a 12-10-4 record with one shutout, a 3.19 goals-against average and a save percentage of .899.

Nie led the ECHL last season with 28 wins and was third in the league with 26 wins with Johnstown in 2007-08. In 159 ECHL games with Johnstown, ‚¬Ë†Elmira, Bakersfield, ‚¬Ë†Cincinnati and Kalamazoo he is 88-47-12 with 10 shutouts, a 3.00 goals-against average and a save percentage of .899.

Prior to turning pro, ‚¬Ë†Nie played three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with Plymouth, ‚¬Ë†Toronto and Sarnia. In 130 games he was 51-54-15 with five shutouts, a 2.93 goals-against average and a save percentage of .911.

Runners Up: Bobby Goepfert, ‚¬Ë†Florida (2-0-0, 1.46 GAA, .959 save pct.) and Joe Fallon, ‚¬Ë†Las Vegas (4-1-0, 2.41 GAA, .919 save pct.).
