Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- Alex Okicki made 27 saves, and shined for the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings, as he led the team to a 1-0 victory in thrilling fashion over the Janesville Jets, and goalie Brock Kautz, who made 41 saves of his own on Saturday in Kalamazoo.
The first period was an up-tempo period from the opening puck drop. Each team was able to create a handful of scoring chances, including a couple of Kalamazoo breakaways. Janesville goalie, Kautz was sensational in the first, making 15 saves on 15 shots, and keeping the game at a scoreless tie.
4:01 into the second period, Kalamazoo would break the scoreless tie. Jacob McDowell drove the goal on his backhand, and put the puck through the five-hole of Kautz to make the game 1-0. The third goal of the season by McDowell was the only tally in the second period.
The third period followed the theme of the first two, as it was filled with end-to-end action highlighted by both goalies stealing the show. Kalamazoo ended up victorious in the one-goal contest, led by 27 saves in a shutout effort from Okicki.
