Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - As the IceRays season is in full swing, the D1 collegiate season has just kicked off, with the D3 schedule starting just around the corner, and former IceRays players already are making an impact on their new teams.
IceRays netminder Anthony Stolarz will get his first start with the University of Nebraska-Omaha Lancers tonight as they take the ice with Notre Dame on national television. The game can be seen at 6:30PM CST on the NBC Sports Network.
"It's a big moment in my life," said Stolarz, who was picked in the 2012 NHL Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers. "I have always dreamed of playing college hockey and tonight starts my NCAA career with the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks. I'm looking forward to playing Notre Dame and hope my first game starts off on a positive note."
Beau Walker, who committed to Sacred Heart last season, picked up his first two points of the year in a loss at Providence. In two seasons, and 122 games with the IceRays, Walker scored 33 goals, 74 assists, for 107pts.
Colton Saucerman, who committed last year as well while with Lincoln in the USHL, assisted the first goal for Northeastern. In his time with Corpus Christi, Saucerman scored eight times, and assisted 26 others.
Other members of the IceRays are hitting the ice at the Division-1 level. Michael Benedict has already scored for Niagara U. this season. Frank Misuraca helped the University of Alabama-Huntsville take down Penn State U. Brandon Adams will play for Holy Cross while Pheonix Copley is between the pipes for Michigan Tech, and Mychal Monteith man's the blue line at Mercyhurst.
It's not just at the Division-1 level, but also in Division-3 that players are cracking lineups. Greg Chapman attends St. Mary's U and will play defense alongside Navarone Copley. Josh Obregon will skate this season for Johnson & Whales U, while Kevin Crowe plays for Wentworth College with former IceRay Jake Diamond. Four others including Luc Neitenbach (Worcester State), Derrek Shartz (Tufts U.), Jonathan Sdao (Colby College), and Anton Olsson (Lawrence College) will play D3 as well.
The IceRays are home tonight against Wichita Falls. Puck drops at 7:05PM, coverage begins at 6:50PM with the IceRays Pregame Show on SportsJuice.com and the TuneIn Radio APP.
