Kalamazoo Wings Week In Review
March 1, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo started the week on Wednesday (2/23) with a morning contest against the Motor City Mechanics. Tim Krueckl (11, 12) led the K-Wings offensively by registering both of Kalamazoo goals. Unfortunately, Krueckl's two goal performance wouldn't be enough, as Motor City's Blair Manning lit the lamp three times to lead the Mechanics to a 5-2 victory in front of a season high crowd of 5,291 at Wings Stadium for Education Day.
On Friday (2/25), the K-Wings remained home for a game against the Kansas City Outlaws. After a scoreless opening period, Kansas City's Mark Lee continued his splendid rookie campaign by netting his 10th goal of the season just 1:43 into the second period to give the Outlaws a 1-0 lead. Kalamazoo stormed back with goals from Tim Krueckl (13) and Yannick Carpentier (16) just one-minute a part from one another to give the K-Wings a 2-1 lead. The Outlaws rounded up a pair of goals of their own to regain a 3-2 lead. Midway in the third period, the K-Wings answered back with the goal from team captain Tyler Willis (11) to tie the game at 3-3. The game eventually headed into a shootout where the Outlaws outscored the K-Wings 3-1, as Kansas City skated away with a 4-3 shootout victory over Kalamazoo.
Kalamazoo finished off the week Saturday (2/26) with a road trip to Fort Wayne, Indiana to play the Komets. The game, which featured see-saw scoring from both teams, was opened up in the third period with a pair of K-Wings goals from Tim Krueckl (14) and Sean Starke (14) just 41 seconds apart from one other to give the K-Wings the lead for good. Goaltender Joel Martin was magnificent stopping 37 of the 39 shots he faced, as the K-Wings cruised to a 4-2 victory over their arch-rivals. The victory for Kalamazoo was their third straight in Fort Wayne. The win also set a new K-Wings record for road wins in a season with 20.
