December 8, 2012 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- Kalamazoo held the lead for the majority of this Saturday afternoon contest, but that all changed at the 14:41 mark in the third. Eric Revard scored two goals within a minute and twenty seconds, giving Soo a lead that would hold for the rest of the game. Robin Hoglund added an empty net goal to give the Soo Eagles a 3-1 victory.
The first period featured no goals for either squad as both goaltenders were solid in a back-and-fourth game. The Jr. K-Wings only had four shots on net and killed off the only penalty of the period when Sam Johnson was sent to the box for elbowing.
In the second period, Kalamazoo was finally able to break onto the score sheet with a power play goal from Trevor Boyd (6 th ). Boyd put home the loose puck in the crease after Kyle Gattelaro took a wrist shot that rang off the post. The power play was the only tally of the period as the Jr. K-Wings took a 1-0 leading heading into the final period.
This hard fought, low scoring contest completely flipped around late in the third period. Rivard (12 th ) was able to tie the game up for the Eagles with just 5:19 left when he streaked up the boards and put home the game tier. His goal was assisted by Jared Van Wormer.
A little over a minute after Marcus Due-Boje lost his shutout, Kalamazoo also surrendered the lead. Rivard (13 th ) was again able to find the back of the net, and his goal was, again, assisted by Van Wormer. Van Wormer won the draw to Rivard who went straight in and put it five-hole.
With 1:25 left in the game, the Jr. K-Wings pulled Due-Boje in order to have another attacker. The Eagles, however, were able to take advantage of the empty net and Hoglund extended the Eagle lead to 3-1. This would end up being the final goal of the contest.
With two late tallies by Soo's Rivard, Kalamazoo falls in a thriller to the visiting Eagles by the final of 3-1

The Jr. K-Wings will look for a little redemption tomorrow, as they will again face the Soo Eagles at Wings West.
