Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release
Springfield, IL - The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings had defeated the Springfield Jr. Blues in all six meetings this season coming into Saturday night's matchup. On Saturday night, this trend would continue, as Kalamazoo would defeat Springfield 1-0. Marcus Due-Boje was a standout in net for Kalamazoo, as he recorded the shutout.
Early in the first, the Jr. Blues thought that they were able to get on the board, but it was immediately waved off by the referee, and called a high stick. The Jr. K-Wings would get the first official score of the game, and it would come at the 9:22 mark in the first period. Mac McDonnell (4th) gets credit for the score, and his goal put the Jr. K-Wings on top of the Jr. Blues by the score of 1-0. This would be the score on the board as the teams went to the locker room for the first intermission.
The second period was a back and forth affair, but neither team was able to get on the board. McDonnell's goal in the first remained the lone score in the game after forty minutes, and Kalamazoo went into the second intermission still leading Springfield 1-0.
Just like the second period, the third period was scoreless. Unfortunately, for the Springfield Jr. Blues, that meant that they fell to the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings by the score of 1-0. With this win, Kalamazoo draws even with Jamestown, who lost tonight, and Springfield remained one point behind Janesville, who also lost Saturday night.
