
Kalamazoo Gives up Two Late Goals, Wins in Overtime

Kalamazoo, MI- Two goals from Drew Graves set the tone for the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings, who survived a late comeback effort from the Traverse City North Stars en route to a 4-3 overtime victory on Sunday at the Borgess Health Rink at Wings West.
Kalamazoo forward Gravesscored at the 11:36 mark of the opening frame to give the Jr. K-Wings a one goal lead midway through the first. Graves' team-leading 51st point would be the only goal in the period, giving Kalamazoo a one goal lead to take into the locker room after twenty minutes of play.
The second period saw the Jr. K-Wings take a two-goal lead at the 8:24 mark of the middle frame. Taylor Burden notched is ninth goal of the season by jamming home a perfect centering pass from Christian George.
With time ticking down in the second period, Traverse City would pull themselves to within a goal of Kalamazoo. Chris Leibinger tallied his third of the season on a slap shot from the left circle that cleanly beat Kalamazoo goaltender, Ken MacLean.
Graves (23rd) scored his second of the game at the 14:25 mark of the third period to give Kalamazoo a two goal lead.
Traverse City, however, would not be silenced, as they scored at the 18:34 mark of the third period to pull within one. Michael Toman scored the power play tally, his fifth of the season.
Fifteen seconds later, the North Stars would force overtime with a scrambling goal by Eric Rivard (17th).
Three minutes and eighteen seconds into the overtime period, Chris Leone (4th)scored on a wrister to deliver Kalamazoo their sixteenth home victory of the season.
The Jr. K-Wings will return to the Borgess Health Rink at Wings West again on Saturday, March 10th against the Springfield Jr. Blues.
