Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release
Jamestown, NY- Former Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wing forward, Dan Cesarz, notched two points, including the game winning goal, as he lead the Jamestown Ironmen to a 2-1 victory over the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena.
In a back and forth first period, each team was fortunate enough to get one power play opportunity over the course of the first twenty minutes. Neither were able to capitalize, as both goalies were flawless. Alex Okicki made seven saves for Kalamazoo, while Reed Mimmack made five saves of his own.
The goaltenders stole the show again in the second frame, as both were able to blank their opponent. Mimmack made 12 saves, and helped his club kill off two Kalamazoo penalties. In the other goal, Okicki made nine more saves in the second, and his team killed off one Ironmen power play.
Midway through the third period, it would be the Jr. K-Wings who were able to spring out to a one-goal lead. Danny Hamburg found a soft spot by the goal, and finished off a rebound from a shot that came off the stick of Josh Dangel skating in his first game since September 30th.
Minutes later it would be the Ironmen who brought the score back to even at the 15:46 mark of the third. Former Kalamazoo forward, Dan Cesarz, slid a backhand pass to the front of the goal that connected with Evan Ritt (4th), who was there to pound it past Okicki and knot the game.
With a scoreless final four minutes, the game headed to overtime tied at a goal apiece. It was the first time of the season that Kalamazoo would play extra session hockey.
It didn't take long to end the game in overtime, as Cesarz (5th) walked toward the middle of the Kalamazoo zone and let a shot go from the right side that passed Okicki in the back of the net for the game winning goal, just 20 seconds into the period.
