Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release
Port Huron, MI- The Port Huron Fighting Falcons got two goals from Brett DAndrea on Saturday night in Port Huron, enough to leap-frog them to a 4-1 victory and a six point lead in the North Division over the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings.
The first period started out fast for the Fighting Falcons when they struck first only five minutes into the opening period. DAndrea(5th) tossed a harmless puck towards the cage as he circled around, but a funny hop helped the puck find its way past the Kalamazoo net minder, Alex Okicki, for the early lead. Nolan Valleau was given the lone assist on the tally that gave Port Huron the 1-0 lead.
Only 59 seconds had passed from the DAndrea goal before Port Huron found the back of the net again, and extended their lead to 2-0. Mike Moroso buried his eighth of the season on an unassisted tally at the 6:10 mark of the first.
Seven scoreless minutes passed before Kalamazoo would bounce back from the two-goal deficit. While working with a man-advantage late in the first, Robbie Payne took a quick wrister from the top of the left circle. The rebound took a Jr. K-Wing bounce right onto the stick of Drew Graves, who calmly snapped it in and brought Kalamazoo to within one. Graves' goal was his 14th of the season, trailing only Payne (16) for most on the team.
At the 7:34 mark of the second period, the Fighting Falcons re-established their two-goal lead with a power play strike. DAndrea scored his second of the night and his sixth of the season when he rocketed a wrist-shot past Okicki from the top of the circles.
With only twenty seconds left, Nick Sierra added his eleventh of the season on an empty netter, clinching the victory. The Kalamazoo loss makes it four straight to their divisional rivals.
