Game Rewind

Saturday, October 19th @ Evansville IceMen (Evansville 2-Kalamazoo 0)

Evansville, IN- Led by a 25-save performance by Mike Clemente (1-0-0-0), the Evansville IceMen defeated the Kalamazoo Wings 2-0 Saturday night at the Ford Center.

All the scoring Clemente and the IceMen would need came in the opening period. Early in the game, a pair of penalties against Kalamazoo put the K-Wings on their heels, which gave Evansville the chance to connect on their second power-play opportunity of the night when Nathan Moon (1st) knocked in a Joe Lavin rebound 4:39 into the contest.

After Kalamazoo squandered two power-play attempts midway in the period, a turnover at the IceMen blue line would turn into a breakaway for Evansville. While the initial opportunity from Peter Sakaris was denied by Joel Martin, Mike Seidel would put in the rebound to push the IceMen's lead to two goals.

Despite physical play in the remaining two periods that gave plenty of scoring chances for both teams, neither team was able to light the lamp. The K-Wings closest opportunity occurred with 3:05 remaining in regulation with a shot from David Pacan hit the crossbar and bounced away from the net.

Martin (0-1-0-0) finished the game with 25 saves in the loss.

The defeat marked the first time in their ECHL history (4-1-0-0) that the K-Wings have dropped their season opener.

Including preseason, the K-Wings have now been shutout in back-to-back games, both of which were on the road.

It Doesn't Happen Often

Last Saturday the K-Wings were held without a goal. Kalamazoo, who was shutout once during the 2012-13 season, has been held scoreless only seven times in the five seasons they have been in the ECHL.

Familiar Opponent This Saturday for the second straight game, the K-Wings will play the Evansville IceMen. Saturday will also mark the second straight season that the K-Wings and IceMen have met on Orange Ice; last season Kalamazoo defeated Evansville 4-1.

Firing the Puck Defenseman Sam Ftorek put seven shots on net during last Saturday's game. Ftorek's seven shots lead all K-Wings in that category.

The Obscure Stat of the Week Kalamazoo will open the home portion of their schedule this Saturday during the 10th Annual Orange Ice Game. The K-Wings are 4-5-0-0 all-time on the pumpkin colored ice and 3-1-0-0, including three straight victories in their ECHL history.
