Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Despite a sold-out crowd, a Star Wars theme and a ton of energy in support of Justin Turner and Logan Forsythe, a bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning spoiled Saturday night at LoanMart Field, as the Visalia Rawhide held on to defeat the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes by a final of 6-5.
A crowd of over 4,700 fans watched the Quakes rally from a 5-1 deficit, with Omar Estevez tying the game with a eighth-inning solo homer, only to see reliever Ryan Moseley issue a bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning, giving Visalia their second straight win in the four-game set.
Trailing 5-2 in the fourth, a pop-up on the infield by Estevez was dropped by Visalia second baseman Raymel Flores, allowing the Quakes to rally. Rylan Bannon and Donovan Casey hit back-to-back doubles, making it a 5-4 game.
The Estevez homer, his fourth of the year and second against the Rawhide, evened the game at 5-5.
But in the ninth, Jason Richman (1-3) attempted to work his third straight scoreless inning, but got into some trouble, leaving with two on and two outs. Moseley came on and walked consecutive hitters, including Dominic Miroglio to force in a run and give the Rawhide a 6-5 advantage.
Rancho went 1-2-3 in the last of the ninth, as Kevin Ginkel earned his second save of the year.
Quakes' starter Jordan Sheffield retired the first six hitters before allowing back-to-back hitters to reach in the third. Sheffield threw one additional pitch and then was removed with a possible injury. Isaac Anderson came on and after getting the first two outs, allowed three straight hitters to reach, including a bases-clearing double to make it a 5-1 Rawhide lead.
Nick Yarnell also went deep for Rancho, his first home run since being called up from Great Lakes.
Forsyth, who logged four at-bats as the DH, collected his first hit on his current rehab assignment, as he had a seventh-inning double to finish the game at 1-for-4. Turner, who played seven innings at third base, finished the game at 0-for-3 in his first rehab appearance.
The Quakes (16-20) will send Andrew Sopko (2-2) to the hill on Sunday, with both Justin Turner and Logan Forsythe scheduled to play for Rancho. Visalia will counter with Bo Takahashi (3-2), with game time scheduled for 2:05pm.
Sunday is Mother's Day and a great day to bring the family to the ballpark. Kids will Run The Bases after the game, thanks to Smile Generation. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field very soon...Go Quakes!
