NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (February 28)- In their third game in as many days the Brahmas fell 4-2 to the Missouri Mavericks Sunday afternoon at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
The Brahmas found themselves down two men with blueliners Tyrell Mason and Ross Rouleau in the penalty box for two minutes in the opening period, and just as time expired Toby Lafrance beat Joe Palmer for the Maverick lead. Texas was able to test their own powerplay unit minutes later with Jordan Foreman off for a tripping call. There was no evidence of any struggles on the 13th ranked Brahmas powerplay when rookie forward A.J. Gale maneuvered a 360 degree turn with the puck in front of goaltender Charlie Effinger and found the back of the net. Kevin Seibel and James Hiebert were credited with the assists on the goal.
A second Texas goal, also on the powerplay, gave the Brahmas a 2-1 lead with Jordan Cameron registering his 19th of the season. The Brahmas were once again in penalty troubles and gave up back to back powerplay goals to send them trailing 2-3 into the second intermission.
Texas hammered 18 shots on net in desperation in the final period, but it wasn't enough as the Brahmas dropped their first game at home since January 23. An empty net goal by former Brahmas forward Braden Walls ended the game with a 4-2 loss for the Brahmas.
Texas will hit the road for a Southern Conference matchup against the Corpus Christi IceRays Thursday before returning to the NYTEX Sports Centre Friday for a 7:05 PM game against Laredo. The first 1000 fans at NYTEX on Friday will receive a free Brahmas cap courtesy of NYTEX Sports. On Saturday the Brahmas will take on the Rapid City Rush for the first time in franchise history at 7:05 PM.
