Odessa Jackalopes News Release

(Odessa, TX) - Sebastien Thinel recorded a hat trick and a four-point game as the Odessa Jackalopes topped the Amarillo Gorillas, 7-4, on Saturday night at the Ector County Coliseum in front of Odessa's largest crowd of the season - 4,422.

Thinel's hat trick goal was Odessa's only marker of the third period, a one-timer in the right circle at 2:22 on the power play. The goal gave Odessa a 7-1 lead, but the Gorillas scored three of their own in the final frame.

The four-point night for the Jackalopes forward puts him second in the CHL in overall scoring with 81 points, just six points behind Colorado's Kevin Ulanski, and gives Thinel a total of 24 points in 10 games during the month of February.

Odessa took control of the game with three goals in the first period. Alex Dunn put Odessa on the board at 5:16 to open the game's scoring for his 14th of the season. Thinel then made it 2-0 on a counter-attack rush with Troy Ofukany at 18:37. Thinel left the puck at the top of the right circle before Ofukany passed to the front of the net back to Thinel, who slipped it around Mike Brown for his 17th goal of the year. Jeff Pierce then made it 3-0 for the Jackalopes less than a minute later on a loose puck in front of the net.

The second period was penalty filled as the Gorillas racked up 63 penalty minutes and two game misconducts in the final seven minutes of the frame. The Jackalopes took a 6-1 advantage on goals from Thinel, Dominic Leveille, and Mike Ramsay on the power play. Amarillo's Anthony Battaglia also scored.

Joel Martin stopped 24 shots to earn his 20th win of the season.

The Jackalopes' record improves to 40-10-4 as they become the first team in the CHL to win 40 games this season, eclipsing last season's win total. It's the first time Odessa has won 40 games in a season since 2001-02 when the team won 47.

Ramsay's power play goal in the second period made it 15 straight games the Jacks have recorded a man-advantage goal.

The Jackalopes take to the road on Wednesday when they visit the Colorado Eagles at 8:05 PM Central time. The action can be heard on 102.1 Jack FM.

The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The team is in the middle of their 13th season in the Permian Basin. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-PUCK or visiting jackalopes.org.
